Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) To The Jobless: Tough Sh!t
On the floor of the U.S. Senate, Kentucky GOP Senator Jim Bunning this week declared aloud it was "tough sh*t" if opposing Senators disagreed with his opposition to extend unemployment benefits for jobless Americans.
Leaned back in his chair on the Senate floor, with his legs crossed, the 78-year old Bunning dismissed pleas of fellow Senators to withdraw his one-man hold on legislation that would provide a desperately needed extension of unemployment benefits and the COBRA health insurance subsidy.
Bunning claims to oppose Senate spending and rising deficits, but he took no such actions when Wall Street banks were receiving billions in bailout funds.
If Bunning is successful, more than 1.2 million jobless Americans will lose their unemployment benefits within days, triggering a humanitarian crisis in many U.S. counties that will severely impact workers, spouses and their children.
Please urge Senator Bunning to end his vendetta against jobless Americans and allow the legislation to extend unemployment benefits to move forward.
I am writing to demand an immediate end to your opposition of the pending extension of unemployment benefits. For millions of Americans, this legislation, which would also provide affordable health insurance coverage, is quite simply the difference between life and death.
Holding Americans hostage to a narrow political agenda is unworthy of any elected official, no matter how little time remains in their political career. Your words and actions in this matter reveal an embittered and isolated misanthrope who has lost touch with the realities of families trying to survive in this Great Recession.
Please reconsider your opposition to helping jobless Americans. They are innocent victims of the worst economic crisis in 70 years and deserve better treatment than you accord your fellow Senators.
