Get Rid of Bathroom Passes at Jennings High
Why this petition matters
At Jennings High School, the beginning of the school year starts with students being forced to pay for "planners" that are supposed to help with organization, scheduling, and having easy access to the rules. In reality, the only thing these planners are used for is to police the use of the bathroom.
This handy dandy booklet contains one section per nine weeks. In each section, there are ten spaces for the teachers to sign every time a student asks to use the restroom. This includes one "emergency" space that also has to be signed by the office. After a student uses up these spaces, the teachers are made to give out tardies. These tardies can lead to detentions, punishing them for basic human needs.
Now I start to wonder what the point of all this is. Do the administrators expect kids to go through seven hours of school, five days a week for nine weeks, and only go to the bathroom ten times max? Where is the benefit? Is the staff so power-hungry that an extensive and excessive rulebook just isn't cutting it?
These bathroom passes are a waste of time and resources and do nothing to improve anyone's experience at the school.
