My oldest child has had life threatening allergies to food his entire life.  Anaphylaxis is a known LIFE THREATENING event requiring immediate administration of Epinephrine and activation of emergency medical services.  To delay this is to increase risk of death, this can happen VERY quickly.  By State Law for a child with a known Anaphylaxis diagnosis must have a 504 Care Plan in place to attend public school.  Parents MUST provide along with their child's provider orders for medications to be used, and care plan, SUPPLY OF MEDICATION to the schools.  This requires expensive medications to be in supply for EACH CHILD with a known anaphylaxis potential.

The CDC states that 1/13 kids has a food allergy, 8% of the US child population.  The problem is that not ALL anaphylaxis that occurs in children DURING SCHOOL HOURS and SCHOOL CUSTODY are happening to kids with a history or care plan to treat this medical emergency.  A study in 2013/2014 has shown that up to 22% of cases in schools had NO KNOWN ALLERGIC diagnosis indicating a need for the life saving Epinephrine to be on hand for them.

So, to make ALL schools safe for ALL children, I am petitioning the local District to PROVIDE a STANDING ORDER and SUPPLY of Epinephrine for use available to ALL students.  This would provide SAFETY for ALL Students and reduce WASTE and financial burden to the parents of kids who currently have to provide it for their kids to attend school in their back packs and at home.
