SEED OUR WRESTLERS... They've earned it!

Coaches and parents who sign this petition, request that Team Georgia Wrestling revise the 2017 Kids State Championship brackets so that they align with the records of wrestlers who have competed throughout the 2016/2017 Wrestling Season.

As the brackets stand, in almost every weight class, some of the top wrestlers in the state who have worked very hard all season long to achieve this status, will wrestle each other early on, in many cases within the first or second round.  Many, if not most of the brackets are extremely lops sided, with some of the states top wrestlers loaded on one side, while beginners or less accomplished wresters are bracketed on another side.

While we appreciate the attempt at transparency, unfortunately, the blind draw resulted in lopsided brackets, which are not in the best interest of our young wrestlers or Georgia State Youth wrestling. As it stands, the current brackets will not reflect the true talent that Georgia has within it's youth wrestling programs. Finals will be one sided in may cases, and many of the top wrestlers will not make the podium.

As you know, standard tournament bracketing in State Championships are not random. Wrestlers are seeded base upon pre-established criteria, which usually includes his/her accomplishments throughout the current season. Top wrestlers are separated from each other until the later rounds, while lower ranked wrestlers are typically paired against higher ranked wrestlers in the early rounds.  With the random draw, we have too many cases where the top kids wrestle each other in the early rounds, while beginners make their way to the finals. In many cases, the top four to five wrestlers are on one side of the bracket. This creates a situation where some of the top wrestlers will go 2 and out. At $50 per wrestler, the kids and parents deserve more!

Wrestlers have worked hard all season; going to countless tournaments, weekend after weekend, month after month. Parents have paid tournament fees of $15 to $20 a week, locally, and $50 for the State Tournament.  Overall, parents, coaches, and most importantly our youth wrestlers have invested a lot of their time and money in the participation of and growing of wrestling in Georgia.  Every one of them deserves a fair State Championship that reflects the true hard work of each child has put into his/her season. Our kids should be seeded properly according to their 2016/2017 wrestling record. Please make this right!
