Better parking facilities for Trucks around Kent.

Since the closure of Folkestone's Harbour Lorry Park, the issue of truck parking has become a major concern, both for truck drivers and the residents of Kent On an average Saturday night Folkestone Harbour would see in excess of 200 trucks parked up for their weekend compulsory break. This was an ideal spot for drivers to chill out in a clean and pleasant area with plenty to do and places to go along with every facility needed for a relaxing break, with cafes, shops, launderettes etc close at hand. Now drivers either entering or leaving the UK and needing to take their compulsory daily or weekend break are fighting for the smallest space often with no facilities on industrial estates, country lanes and laybys throughout the county due to the massive lack of parking throughout the county. This has also put massive pressure upon the present facilities that the county does have. This problem is also becoming further wide spread throughout the U.K. with overpriced and very poor facilities being the norm. The average price for parking in a motorway service station is now £25.00, they are usually all totally full by 6pm leaving drivers desperate for places to park and often falling foul of the law in finding places within their maximum driving and working hours and where it is legal to be parked. Germany, Austria, France and Italy are building massive rest areas along their motorway networks which are free of charge to use, however they do have sparse facilities but they are in good condition and available. Many may say that this comes at a massive cost to the tax payer but surely this is not strictly true. In just two days of driving within Germany on their motorway network I personally racked up a charge of €130.00. Compared to the measly amount the U.K. charge foreign trucks to use our road network. Surely charging foreign trucks more would easily offset this and make life so much better for so many people both living and working in the U.K. This has got to be the cheapest country for foreign operators to use, hence the massive influx of mainly Eastern European hauliers taking advantage of this and slowly putting UK hauliers out of business as well as adding to over stretched parking problems.
Please add a signature to this plea to get something done about this problem we are all facing and nothing is being done about.
