Ban the use of the insecticide, Neonicotinoid & save our bees

The Issue

Bees: as you know, without our wonderful Bees, our entire eco-system would be in terrible trouble! Although there are many factors that have contributed to the issue, it is felt Neonicotinoids, a particularly toxic insecticide, are destroying the Bees. Although not 100% proven, countries such as France, Germany and Italy have banned them and there has now been evidence that since the ban, the Bees are starting to thrive once again. Neonicotinoids are more potent than DDT, which was banned back in the 80s, so why are we still allowing the Agricultural community to use it?

The seed was sown when the founder Jan Appleton was studying a MA in Gender Studies Research, where her understanding of the systematic discrimination against women throughout different societies conflicted with the fundamental dependence on women to provide the skills and knowledge to bring up the next generation. Roots where formed when Jan worked for Oxfam, discovering the values of Fairtrade that were then underpinned with the Make Poverty History Campaign. With the concept that to empower women we need to increase their status and self-esteem in a sustainable way, the Conscious Consumer was born...it is part of our ethos to assist women to achieve economic independence and alleviate poverty at grass roots level.
