I'm signing because Black history is World history and it's about time we ended the whitewashing of history. We need to normalize truth in society.

I am signing because it is time. Time we stopped teaching and learning history like white British people have existed in some kind of vacuum. It's time we understood that our wealth and industry is inextricably and causally connected with the poverty and underdevelopment of other parts of the world. Its time we understood that 'we' is all of us, all over the world; that people living in India or Ghana, or Jamaica are not 'others', they are 'us'. Its time we all knew about all our histories and all our cultures.

Black History is History, it shouldn't be regarded as something optional but it's the world's history and it needs to be told to help influence the future generations and stop dividing everything due to race

As a young black, adult, I strongly believe that Black history should be included in the British school curriculum. With the diverse cultures in Britain, it is essential for the young generation to learn the history of black history. The only black history that was majorly learnt was slavery. black history is not just slavery, it is the powerful empires that existed. The African nations that held big importance during their time period. I hope that the addition of black history in the curriculum is the catalyst of many additions of ethnic minority history into the British school curriculum

I think this would really help to defeat racism in the UK and I wish I'd been taught about it at school. I knew nothing about our overseas territories or the Windrush ships until the scandal a few years ago. And we should all know about our links to slavery and Colonial history/ The British Empire - we should be told what we did, who we exploited, what land we stole etc. I recently watched a documentary about the Chagos Islands - where the islanders were 'evicted' by the British government in the 1960s so the US could build a military base!
