STOP RACIAL INJUSTICE IN THE PRISON SYSTEM

The authors of the Declaration of Independence outlined a bold vision for America: a nation in which there would be equal justice for all. More than two hundred years later, it has yet to be achieved. Though generations of civil rights activism have led to important gains in legal, political, social, educational, and other spheres, the forced removal of indigenous peoples and the institution of slavery marked the beginnings of a system of racial injustice from which our country has yet to break free.

Deep-seated systemic racism and inequities that disadvantaged communities of color are still woven into the fabric of our institutions today— from education and housing to our criminal legal system.

The criminal legal system has been designed to in-slave black and brown men and women with no regard to humanity since Amendment 13th. The men and women housed in the prison system are treated like a number rather than a human being. The officers working in these facilities are beating and abusing these men almost killing them and finding tactics to cover up the brutality. It’s then very difficult for the inmates to speak out and be heard, they are silenced and some do not even have family on the outside to help and fight for them. So they sit there and get tortured and abused.

My husband is incarcerated and on March 2, 2021 was just nearly killed by the hands of the Correctional Officers including a Lieutenant. Over eight officers took him to a secluded area and beat him, giving him a concussion along with other severe injuries leading him to an emergency outside hospital. They tortured him including not feeding him after they beat him. The officers then falsify documentation and lie on inmates to justify their wrong doings of abuse, violating the state’s guidelines as well as violating civil rights.

My goal writing this petition is to make aware of this abuse in attempt to reform CDCR rules and regulations. The officers need body cameras just as the law officers in society today. Please help me by signing this petition to help bring awareness and request California state CDCR officers have better training, wear body cameras, and be held accountable for their actions.
