Reevaluate Alternative Diploma Criteria
This petition had 21 supporters
The Alternative Diploma Program is placed within the school system for students with severe cognitive disabilities. Through this program, the student will receive additional support and resources but will not receive a standard diploma upon graduation. While this might be beneficial for some students, some will fall through a loophole and will suffer as a result. Like those who have a learning disability but are high functioning. With this alternate diploma those students cannot receive employment at multiple places, attend college, or have the satisfaction that their hard work has paid off. Rather than forcing a student into the program we are petitioning a reevaluation of the criteria. So that students who are struggling but high functioning can receive additional assistance and receive the standard diploma they have worked for. Albert Einstein said if you judge a fish by it's ability to climb a tree it will believe it's whole life that it is stupid. By signing this petition and helping to advocate for this cause you are helping to ensure that students are judged by their own ability rather than compared to the ability of another. I encourage each of you to sign this petition and share with your friends so that no child is left behind during or after the completion of their school career.
