The Philippines is a tropical country, therefore there is an intense heat in the country, and is also prone to natural disasters such as typhoons, making the weather in the Philippines usually humid. Causing mosquitoes to appear in almost every school in the Philippines. Mosquitoes are carriers of many diseases such as dengue. There is currently an outbreak of mosquitoes in some parts of the Philippines causing many students being infected with dengue and therefore missing their classes. One of the remedies for this outbreak is to start growing mosquito repellent plants in schools. Some of these plants are lavender, citronella grass, mint, and marigolds.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said 106,630 dengue cases had been reported from January 1 to June 29, 2019 – 85% more than the 57,564 cases reported from the same period in 2018.

Having mosquitoes around school premises has a lot of consequences:

·         Dengue – mosquitoes are carrier of diseases such as dengue, therefore mosquitoes in school premises can bite not only students but also teachers and school staffs.

·         Absence in classes – when a student is bit by a mosquito he/ she might shows symptoms of dengue and will therefore miss classes at school.

By putting mosquito repellents plants at schools we can get many benefits such as:

·         Lessen the amount of mosquito bites – planting mosquito repellent plants will make mosquitoes avoid those places.

·         It will make the environment more aesthetically pleasing – plants improve the beauty of the environment, for they are colorful.

This petition shows the philosophical views: environment aesthetics and environmentalism. It shows environmental aesthetics, for plants help preserve and improve the beauty of nature. Environmentalism, because mosquito outbreaks does not only happen in the Philippines but also happens around the world.

Placing mosquito repellent plants in school is very beneficial to students, teachers, and school staffs, for many of these plants are aesthetically pleasing and prevents mosquito outbreaks in school. Decreasing the possibilities of individuals going to school being infected by the diseases carried by mosquitoes.
