Support Hannah Cvancara's acceptance into Navy Nurse Corps as the first civilian amputee
Why this petition matters

Hannah Cvancara RN, BSN is appealing to Department of Defense through Congress in order to join the Navy Nurse Corps as the first congenital amputee in service. In addition to support received from medical providers, elected officials, and high-ranking servicemembers, Hannah passed the fitness scores required for active duty, doubling the score in some criteria. She works full time as a nurse, part time as a prosthetics patient advocate, and played seven sports throughout her life. There is a dire need for nurses within active duty service, and Hannah longs to serve her country as a Naval officer and critical care nurse.
The military adheres to strict and long-standing medical standards that do not allow amputees to serve is they lost their limb prior to service, regardless of their physical capabilities. Military medical standards (DODI 6130.03) state that one cannot have "Prosthetic replacement of any joints, if there is resultant loss of function or persistent pain...Foot and ankle conditions that include amputation of any part of the foot or toes." Hannah hopes to be considered based on performance, not bias, as she pursues a life of service and commitment to others.
