The Consultation on Common Texts’s response

The Consultation on Common Texts

Jan 18, 2013 — To Julie Webb:

Thanks for writing.

There are translations of the Bible available that more accurately identify "The Judeans" (i.e,. the religious leaders in Judea) rather than "The Jews" in the way they render many such texts we are all rightly concerned about into English.

Several of the denominations from which we come already commend such translations, and a few require them for use in public worship.

Our role as a Consultation that developed and now promotes the Revised Common Lectionary is to offer our work to the churches as a gift. We do not have nor do we seek from them the authority to determine how they will use it, nor what translations of biblical texts they may choose to commend or require.
