Secret Ballot to Determine Student's Association Position on UCU Strikes

The main aim of the Student's Association is to be the representatives of the student body. Unfortunately, the conduct of the Student's Association regarding the UCU strike action has not satisfied this constitutional responsibility.

There was no ballot of students concerning the feelings amongst students on the lecturer strikes; little effort was made by the Student's Association to determine the students thoughts; students received no communication from the Student's Association regarding the UCU strikes; and students do not know how the Student's Association came to the decision to support the strikes. This lack of democracy from the Student's Association is of very great concern.

We believe that, given the underlying impacts of this walkout on the student body of this university, a secret ballot is essential before the Student's Association can seek to speak for the interests of students on this issue.
