The state of Ohio requires that a person who was charged with a felony must legally remain a documented felon for an additional three years after the termination of probation before their record and be sealed  this petition is to show that rehabilitation is possible at the moment that the probation is terminated. I would like to see this law changed and the final decision to seal a record be given to the courts. The judge should be able to look at the completed probation time and make the decision as to whether or not an individual person has paid their dues. To add an additional three years to someone’s background stops so many people from getting jobs and housing and finding their place in society. We must look at the effort put in to change and take all that into consideration. When do we stop labeling people because of poor choices made in their past and start giving them a second chance to do and be better. I am asking that you show your support for those who have put in the work to make the changes and give them the chance to work and live along side of you. We must be the change we want to see.
