Daisy Deschamps’s School Assignment Appeal

Daisy Deschamps’s School Assignment Appeal
Daisy is entering 3rd grade for the 2021-22 school year. We moved early in the Pandemic and the Seattle School District has just now assigned her to a new school in our current zone. This new school would be her 5th school and she is only 8 years old. Her learning path has been very disrupted with multiple moves and then the Pandemic. Madrona Elementary has been the first school she has attended for consecutive grades. She has worked so hard virtually and looks forward to returning to the teachers and friends she knows.
This change in school will disrupt her learning path again. She received extra learning services and is to continue doing so with the staff at Madrona. It will also force our family to accommodate this change. After school will be an issue, her sister attends the SPS Program at Madrona, her baby sister will be joining a daycare in the area, and our supportive community resides at Madrona.
We have appealed this decision and it was denied. All the reasons we shared to appeal were all for Daisy’s best interest and non of them fell under any reason you can’t appeal. The Seattle School office will need to accept our appeal for Daisy to remain a student at Madrona. In the event we are not able to advocate Daisy remains at Madrona, we worry she will fall further behind them she currently is and have added social and emotional stress. Our family will have to figure out new schedules for our 3 children as well as work. Our family has been navigating the Pandemic, school, and work and this is not a situation that helps our family, but rather adds additional challenges on top of the ones we already face.
We are committed to what is best for Daisy. Her education has been challenged too many times for an 8year old. Please help us with your support and sign this petition. We told Daisy we will do everything we can do to help support her. She is also collecting signatures and if anyone is interested in joining her all the help is welcome!
