It is not just a "recess policy" that should be the concern here. The Seattle public school district is out of compliance to state and federal mandates! Our 1st grader has a total of 30 minutes for both standing in a very long line for lunch pick up, eating (allegedly) and recess! Ridiculous after fifteen minutes (real time) of access to the lunchroom, (not receiving lunch, access only to the lunchroom) they are asked to go to recess, so actual sit down time is limited to apx. 6-7 minutes, if even that! This is what the richest country on earth can offer! I am so very deeply offended by our lack of true concern for the next generations well being it is truly tragic. How can they succeed at school or in their lives with this foundation?

I am a teacher and know that I can't teach and students can't learn unless their minds and bodies are ready to learn. Recess is an important key to student learning.

Children learn through movement. I'm concerned about the children receiving a comprehensive and effective education.

Because it basic common sense. Also evidence based. And good for kids.

I'm signing because the teachers are upholding the right values for our children. I believe our teachers need to be paid a fair salary. Being 47th in the nation for teacher pay is unacceptable.
Testing our children and teachers is not the right way forward for our education system. Please listen to our teachers they have our children's best interest.
I support our teachers 100%

I am signing because I have a minor child in Sea Schools. He needs his recesses for a break from the struggles with academics through out the day. He also has an IEP which I am unsure what will happen if he is always learning. During lunch he will eat 2 bites of food just so he can go play outside with his friends.

Kids need unstructured time out of the classroom to refresh and recharge. They need an adequate amount of time to eat lunch (20 minutes)
