Currently at one of the four Middle College sites, Ida B. Wells School for Social Justice, the science and math teacher, Mr. Rogelio Rigor, is told he is to be displaced from the school and cannot teach the students his curriculum next fall. This is just one of the many irrationalities going on in the public school system, such as the closure of Middle College's High Point site. Mr. Rogelio Rigor's curriculum based around learning about current serious global issues like climate change has been successful in liberating his students from the standardized model of education to becoming critically aware and strong minded individuals who continue to achieve and succeed in life well after high school. Located at the University of Washington, students are provided with resources of knowledge they would otherwise not get at a normal high school, and many professors on campus who support the environmental science curriculum and are in connection with Mr. Rogelio Rigor will be lost with this plan for displacement. By taking out one of the two teachers the students of Ida B. Wells depend on as a mentor and friend, the schools model of scholarly based education will be affected greatly as well as the students learning process coming back next year.
