Seattle Parks Department, Fully Fund Be'er Sheva Park Improvements with MPD

Seattle Parks Department, Fully Fund Be'er Sheva Park Improvements with MPD

The Issue

Residents of Rainier Beach have designed park improvements at Be'er Sheva park, and are asking the Seattle Parks department to fully fund our plan. Now we need your support to send a message to Seattle Parks Department to designate Be'er Sheva Park as a "named project" in the 2021 Metropolitan Parks District funding.

Be'er Sheva is Rainier Beach's downtown waterfront park and is central to our community, however, Rainier Beach is below the city of Seattle's waterfront access standard, leaving a gap in basic infrastructure and amenities that other neighborhoods with shoreline access enjoy. After a community design process, we are proposing the following improvements;

  • 30' deep x 150' wide beach with boardwalk
  • Family picnic areas & large gathering areas
  • Walking/exercise paths
  • Waterfront lawn
  • Safety lighting
  • Salmon habitat restoration
  • Fishing/kayak access

Be'er Sheva improvements were cultivated during a robust community engagement process ranging from tabling at local events, design workshops with community groups, and outreach events at the park. Site Workshop has helped the Rainier Beach community put their dreams into shovel-ready construction documents that truly reflects the dreams, wishes, and needs of the community. It's a place where neighbors meet and catch up, where families gather & children play, and where community groups convene. It is well loved, and well used by the people of Rainier Beach.

The Link2Lake committee and the Rainier Beach Community need your support to make Be'er Sheva Park a named project for the 2021 Metropolitan Parks District budget. Please sign our petition and join us in activating our neighborhood waterfront.

Thank you!
