Stop the Madison Valley RapidRide G-Line

Stop the Madison Valley RapidRide G-Line
Madison St., Seattle is home to dozens of small businesses that rely on street parking and on the easy accessibility the route gives to commuters. As of Sept. 30th, 2021, construction has commenced on the RapidRide G Line, a new line from 1st Ave downtown and MLK Jr Way in Madison Valley with stops across First Hill and Capitol Hill.
The program is going to eliminate lanes of traffic on an already narrow street, as well as prohibit areas of street parking that local businesses currently rely on. It also will close down multiple intersections for Left or Right turns. This will severely impact the small businesses that operate along the proposed route. To make matters worse, SDOT has confirmed that the project will be a three-year disruptive process. Construction on the G Line will take place during the prime commuting hours between 7 AM and 5 PM on weekdays.
Construction impacts will include:
- Noise, dust and vibration
- Temporary utility shutoffs
- Disruptions to daily commute, including traffic detours and driveway, road, and lane closures
- Pedestrian detours
- Nighttime and weekend work
There is a complete lack of information provided by the City that supports the need for the new RapidRide G Line. There are already several bus lines serving the area, none of which are overcrowded.
By signing this letter you support the City to halt this project and realize the damage this will cause to small businesses (many of which are minority-owned), local commuters, and residents.
