Traffic congestion within Seattle has always been a large issue, and with the new light rail coming in, it will be heavily reduced. However, the light rail is not going to be fully finished until 2041, over 20 years from now. With Seattle's population growing, the traffic congestion is growing with it. Seattle has always been well known for its traffic. During rush hour, a drive from Bellevue to downtown Seattle (normally a 15-minute drive) takes over an hour. When you finally arrive in Seattle, there is little to no parking due to the high traffic. Residents and workers of Seattle struggle with finances constantly due to the cost of gas used in traffic, and the high expenses of parking. A single traffic accident (which is common due to the high concentration of cars) has been known to put all cars and buses within Seattle to a complete halt, taking hours to move a few blocks. These accidents and traffic not only cost all drivers and riders within Seattle but cost business owners. Their employees driving to work or taking longer to get to clients result in employees being late to work or being paid more for overtime work.

The public transportation in Seattle is overused, with the King county metro operating at reduced capacity due to low funding. Buses are minimal and crowded, resulting in an uncomfortable situation for the passengers. The Seattle transit ridership has been continuously increasing since 2016, and if Seattle gets more buses on the road the length of stops and crowding of buses will decrease. There is also a minimalization of accidents with more public transportation, creating less traffic due to accidents. If Seattle makes public transportation more accessible before the light rail is in full swing, traffic will reduce along with expenses from drivers and business owners.

The City of Seattle must find a solution to this growing issue before it gets even more out of hand.
