As we all know that IITs are the most prestigious institutes of Indian and enjoy a very good reputation World-wide. This is due to a very progressive environment and a flock of brilliant students working together clubbed with amazing professors.

But when a report comes which tells that over 10,000 seats were vacant across 23 IITs in among all the courses offered. If we specifically talk about the the undergraduate courses then the following data shows empty seats for two years:

  • 2020-2021 -- 476
  • 2021-2022 -- 361

To those interested in reading the article, here it goes : https://indianexpress.com/article/education/over-10000-seats-across-iits-and-8700-in-nits-remained-vacant-in-last-2-years-pradhan-7765347/

It is disheartening to see such elite institutes having vacant seats with qualified students from an Examination with such a cut-throat competition waiting to get a seat in the IITs. The empty seats are not only disheartening for the student who devote 2-3 years for the preparation of this competitive exam at such a tender age but also the wastage of the funds provided to the institutes by the Central Government collected as taxes from our pockets.

Now coming to the solution what I can think of to fill these vacant seats for Undergraduate courses is:

  • Either Spot counselling for all IITs should be done
  • or a system like CSAB should be developed to fill the vacant seats in the IITs

And on one of the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan reason of vacant seats "seats being offered to Deserving candidates" we can agree on the point that admission to be given on vacant seats only to JEE Advanced Qualified candidates based on their ranks.

In this regard I would like to request the Education Ministry and the Directors of all the IITs to come forward and take a step to solve this problem either on the points above mentioned or to formulate some other solution on this issue.
