86% of the American Pit Bull Terriers have passed their temperment test.
You are 16 times more like to drown in a 5 gallon bucket of water, 60 times more likely to be killed by falling coconuts, and 200 times more likely to die by taking aspirin than to be fatally attacked by a pit bull.
America's first and most decorated war dog was a pit bull.
The term "pit bull" is a generic term used to describe dogs with similar physical characteristics, but is not a true breed.
In the late 1800's and early 1900's pit bulls we considered "nany dogs" used to keep children safe.
It is understandable to not want any dangerous dogs at a dog park, but to start a dog park out with a "breed" specific ban is unwarranted. Who's to say that a pit bull would have ever caused any problems at this new dog park? Who's to say they would have cause more problems then, say, a feisty chihuahua? There needs to be some sort of screening process, instead of banning one specific type of dog. Wherein all dogs are temperment tested first, regardless of breed. Dog park attendance should be limited to non aggressive dogs, yes, but should never be breed specific. This ban is based off of no factual evidence, simply assumptions.
