Sinead Kelly started this petition to SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT and

784 people lost their lives to suicide last year in Scotland.  A terrifying number.  We need more professional help, resources and funding for Mental Health.

People are on waiting lists up to 52 weeks long just to see a psychiatrist.  How can that possibly help anyone who is feeling suicidal right now?  Other people in crisis go to A&E for help and get sent home with diazepam & a slot on yet another waiting list.  There’s no help for people who need it right here, right now.

We need somewhere people can go, other than A&E, any time of day or night, solely for help with mental health, where they won’t be judged or feel like a burden.  Where they can be given immediate counselling/medication or even put on suicide watch if that’s what is necessary.  We need earlier intervention, trained professionals who may be able to spot the signs we, as friends and family, can’t.  We need shorter waiting lists, more staff, more helplines/text services. ANYTHING. Something has to give, and without more funding these awful rates of suicide won’t change.

Anyone in a position to do so, please help. Hundreds of families are being torn apart due to suicide and poor mental health. We need change, we need help.
