Professional football should not be allowed as a job for anyone convicted of a sex offence
Local Scottish football clubs hold an important part in the community life of many Scottish towns.
The players are idolised by young people, they are role models and individuals young people want to emulate.
As such, it seems clear to me that a person convicted of a sex offense, either in a civil or criminal trial, should not be allowed to be a professional footballer. Ideally I would like to see this enshrined in law rather than policed by the SFA, and not limited to football but any job which holds role model status.
I do also strongly believe in rehabilitation and giving people lots of help to get a second chance, however job choice should be controlled. Sex offenders would already be excluded from being a teacher or nurse for example. Professional footballer should also simply be in the "not allowed" category.
This would also benefit the clubs, making the rules clear and taking the decision making out of their hands.
