Make available specific support for carers of people with mental health issues in Scotland

We, the undersigned, call on the Scottish Government to ensure there is specific support available to carers of people with mental health issues.
We support the ongoing Mental Health Carers Campaign led by Support in Mind Scotland and partners in the National Mental Health Carers Forum.
We want a Scotland where there is recognition, rights and advocacy all tailored for carers of people with mental health issues. According to estimates, there could be as many as 150,000 mental health carers in Scotland – a significant number of people. The needs of mental health carers are different from other carers and this must be respected at the highest level. Building on this, mental health carers need a voice: We ask the Scottish Government to provide support and resources for a National Mental Health Carers Forum led and managed by carers.
We call on the Scottish Government to work with the Forum - and the constituent organisations - particularly following the conclusion of the Mental Health Carers Campaign, to ensure it is doing all it can to provide the specific recognition, rights and advocacy that mental health carers need.
