Lynne Boslem started this petition to Scottish Government and

Help us save our Community facilities within Scotland.

Under current government restrictions, Community facilities and soft plays in Scotland are still not allowed to open to the public and do not have a confirmed date for when they will be allowed.

The Scottish Government have allowed cafes, restaurants and bars across the country reopen - as well as cinemas, swimming pools, gyms and nurseries. In fact 96% of businesses   In Scotland are now trading again.

Within the same communities, bars, social clubs and bowling clubs are already running the same classes. Meanwhile, our community centres/halls and hubs are still closed, many of these facilities are volunteer run and depend on their class/group lets to pay the bills, they are left empty and unable to make any revenue. The groups themselves are struggling financially due not to having a venue to train in and many users and parents are angry that children are still training outdoors in the dark and wet. These facilities are unable to support their groups that are trying to survive until the restrictions are lifted.

The facilities are at risk of losing their long term let’s to other facilities that do not come under community facilities, although providing the same provision.

They have repeatedly confirmed that children under 12 do not need to social distance nor wear masks. Our children are in school, at the park, in childcare. They are in swimming pools in restaurants and cafes. So why can’t they go to governed sporting classes within a facility?

These community groups have also been providing the communities with food provision through the entire process with very little help or support. They are the heart of the community and many families depend on these classes and relationships.

Please sign the petition to implore our first minister to:

a) Give Community facilities and the communities they serve an explanation as to WHY they are still closed and are any more at risk of transmission of COVID-19 than any other venue that is providing the exact same provision.

b) reconsider the continued closure and allow us to begin trading again with the necessary precautions in place!
This will be a phased return and with those classes that have the go ahead form their governing bodies.

b) If she refuses to let us open, provide further financial support for leisure and community facilities.
