Kristy McEwan started this petition to Nicola Sturgeon (First Minister)

Time is short and our freedoms are gradually being eroded by politicians.

The mandate to wear face masks in Scottish shops from 10 July is Draconian and also three months too late.

How did we manage to reduce infection rates and get deaths down WITHOUT using face coverings? It seems that now the Scottish government is ramping up control of Scottish citizens who have done their best to comply with lockdown restrictions.  We need to stand up NOW and say "no more"!

Evidence for face coverings is scant; they restrict breathing and communication.  Who really wants to have even more restrictions on our freedom to communicate with other human beings?  The Scottish government is even going to give police the powers to fine those who do not comply.

News of this mandate to wear face coverings in shops has already distressed members of my family and friends who believe this mandate will be deleterious to individuals and their mental health.  It is time to stand up and say "No".

What about the elderly and the hard of hearing? This will make daily life yet more stressful and make communication even more difficult alongside the "two metre rule".  Brainwashed obedience to authority is a massive  threat to freedom.

If we tolerate this, we will become available for governments to remove the joy from life at will.  Life will rapidly become miserable and more people will die from mental health problems left to fester because of the irrational focus upon a new virus which 98% of people survive. We are survivors not docile conformists.

We the undersigned respectfully ask the Scottish government and Nicola Sturgeon to review this mandate with some urgency.
