Hi all, Going off the most recent news some of you might be aware that the police are out on force on their bikes to catch drivers who are driving too close to cyclists and a lot of folk share the same view on this matter as me. Personally I feel this is just another way to penalise drivers because some roads are very narrow as it is or we’re having to avoid huge pot holes and need to manoeuvre but were now being threatened with £100 Fine 3 Points on our licence and a cycling course to put yourself in a cyclists perspective.

Every year drivers are paying between £300-£2500 per year on car insurance and then another additional payment on road tax and people who choose to cycle should also have an insurance policy set up even if it only costs £100 for a years cover. From personal experience my vehicle was hit by a bike when my car wasn’t even moving and it left me with a £700 repair bill as the male involved gave me false details and blocked my mobile number soon as he left and by doing this is gives us very little trust to believe that the other party will cover the damage costs without their being insurance in place.

There are hundreds of crashes every year involving cyclists and without dash cams for evidence majority of those cases the driver is always blamed at fault. I personally think if your on the roads you should be treated the same way as everyone else , Be safe , Be covered etc because if i’m caught drive to close to someone beside me on a bike I’m getting done by the police but if they cycle to close to me , I’m probably still more likely to get done by the police, So if they are going to be giving their own cycle lanes etc from now on and these road rules are put in place to protect them then please make cyclists be covered on the roads.
