The developers behind a £140m plan for a film studio in Scotland have had their plea for help from the Government rejected. The facility would be Scotlands first purpose built studio complex but the developers were told that ministers - who have the power to call in any live planning application for determination - would only do so if the proposal "raised issues of genuine national interest.""Having considered the information available for this proposal and while noting the major potential of the proposal and the intended delivery of an energy centre and film studio forScotland; Ministers do not propose to call-in the application at this time."

Ministers now recognise the potential economic and cultural benefits associated with this proposal to be an issue of national importance. Therefore, Ministers have now recalled the appeal for their own determination.

The proposed International Film Studio will be the first of its kind in Scotland and satisfies the recommendations of both Creative Scotland and Scottish Enterprise as an International Class Facility.

The provision of an International Film Studio has been recognised by Scottish Government as a key investment opportunity.

The proposed development will comply with BREAMM regulations and proposes the long term management and protection of Cameron Wood; and the development will attract significant inward investment through private funding and direct economic and employment spin off.

The creation of a 'tier 4' Data Centre as part of the development will be the first in Scotland.

‘The planning application was validated on 5th May 2015 and has yet to be determined by the designated Planning Authority. lt is therefore considered that a decision on the merits of the application will not be taken within a satisfactory timeframe which is beneficial to all parties involved. Key to this decision has been the Planning Authority taking until Week 28 of the decision making process to establish that the proposed development is significantly contrary to the development plan. Whilst accepting of the decision, this has caused further delay to the decision making process and does not accord with previous advice from the Planning Authority.’

As for the land:-

The issue of the One Farmer is an issue for the Landowner.  The one farm on the land is only suitable for cattle rearing of a max of 200 cattle or sheep.

‘The Council in their emerging LOP intend to remove the site from designated greenbelt to 'countryside' Once the proposed re-aligned A701 relief road is in place, this will form the boundary to development within the region.’

The greenbelt land at the moment is not arable and is only classified as suitable for sheep and cattle grazing. The back-lot is being built on white land which is not suitable for any farming.

The back lot part of the development will be built on
