Close schools early for the Festive Period
Close schools early for the Festive Period
It has been announced that Scottish schools will not close earlier than normal (as initially proposed). This means that all school staff will be at higher risk just before the festive break as opposed to allowing a buffer period prior to the holiday.
This decision once again highlights that Teaching and other school staff wellbeing is completely disregarded when it comes to peer pressure; the excuse of "every child deserves an education" is not valid as there are other proven ways to provide that (blended learning or online teaching). Vast amounts of (usually personal) time was used to set up Google Classrooms and it is not being used to its potential.
Those of us who are working from home and isolating who have partners that work in school are continuing to be at risk because of the failings of government and local councils.
So, please consider providing that extension. Its not an extra free holiday for teachers; they will continue to deliver blended learning. It just provides a buffer so school staff can enjoy a safer Christmas with loved ones.
