Australian truck drivers keep our country running by delivering everything from the food on your table, essential medications, white goods that furnish your home, to the petrol that fills your tank each week and everything in between.
The current roadhouses  and amenities are appalling to say the least! These essential workers are often unable to have a shower due to the unhygienic standards imposed by the roadhouse proprietors, let alone the limited number of showers available leaving them waiting to be able to freshen up after a long shift, and have extremely limited options in these roadhouses to be able to maintain a healthy balanced diet. There are also only rare and expensive laundering facilities to wash their clothes that they’ve sat in all shift. 
The interstate drivers are driving throughout both day and night and need to manage their fatigue, along with complying with log book obligations, and risking their own lives on the roads where a lot of car drivers have no understanding of the impact of their careless decisions. 
They make huge sacrifices in being away from their families and loved ones regardless of weather, holiday periods, and even pandemics such as we’ve recently experienced. Most have had to have covid tests every three days just to cross borders yet in their breaks they are not even able to have a hot shower, a nutritious meal and a well deserved rest.
Is this how our essential workers really should be treated? 
If we look at other countries facilities at roadhouses such as the U.S they clearly value their transport workers and provide not only comfortable vehicles for their drivers but also immaculate extensive road houses. Why do we accept less in Australia? 
As Australians we need to force a change NOW to ensure that our most valued transport workers have sufficient clean and comfortable facilities to rest at in between long hauls across Australia. As it is, the partners and families of these drivers already constantly worry that their loved ones will make it home each week, fortnight or month let alone having to worry about their health in maintaining their jobs keeping this country running! Let’s force a change!
