Treasurer Morrison: lend us $1 and we'll get you $3.86 in return*

The House of Representatives Inquiry into Film Production has recommended that Incentives for the Australian Film industry be brought into line with the rest of the world.
This would create a level playing field where foreign productions would return to Australia.
It would bring considerable Export Income into the economy and create 1,000s of jobs.
Currently no foreign productions are shooting in Australia because our Incentives are uncompetitive.
This means facilities are idle, workers are unemployed (and not paying tax) and investment is stagnant.
Treasurer, you can fix this.
The report’s key findings on making the Film Production Incentive competitive are:
• Production would increase by 35% to $1,600 million by 2021-22
• Jobs would increase by 37.5%. These are high skill, high wages, high tax jobs.
• That for every $1 in support, $3.86 in flow-on economic activity is created.*
This flow on is through to the broader economy in areas such as building supplies, catering, and plant and equipment purchase and hire.
• That for every $1 disbursed, the government reaps $1.05 in taxes. A competitive Incentive scheme is revenue positive.
Making the Film Production Incentives competitive drives substantial economic growth with a net benefit to Government and the community.
We call on the Government to support the Inquiry’s findings to bring Film Production Incentives into line with rest of the world.
Help us bring income, investment and high value jobs into the Australian economy.
