Stop Australian Banks Charging Interest during Covid-19

During these times of extreme hardship for Australians, it is not fair that the banks are able to capitalize interest on loans whilst everyday working people receive no income yet still have expenses. Especially after the taxpayer has bailed out and underwritten the banking industry in the past and again this time around.

The banks must be forced to freeze mortgages (including interest) immediately for people who find themselves out of work as a result of this pandemic. It is not fair that the banks should profit by charging interest on loans while we, the taxpayer, provide significant funding to support them.

I call on the Prime Minister and Australian Government to force the lending institutions to stop charging interest and fees on mortgages while the terrible effects of this pandemic are felt throughout the Australian economy and in just about every Australian household.

Everyone needs to shoulder some of the burden during this terrible time, including the Banks.
