Save our community - Cobar

Cobar is a small mining town in Central Western New South Wales. Our town’s economy is mainly based around mining.

Currently there is a mining camp on the outskirts of town, they have submitted an application to expand this facility. Increasing housing from 119 to 199. Link to the application - https://www.cobar.nsw.gov.au/9-general/latest-news/328-expansion-of-cobar-mine-workers-village

Having the mining personnel accommodated outside of town is hurting our community. The people staying at the camp are on FIFO and DIDO rosters and do not spend money in our town. All meals are provided at the camp - therefore residents of the camp have no reason to come to town. They do their time and go back to their respective homes.

We need legislation, similar to the Strong and Sustainable Resource Communities Act that has recently come into force in Queensland.

Our town will continue to suffer if something does not change.
