Former Liberal Party Opposition Leader Dr John Hewson tweeted on 19 July: “Parliament should endorse the Banking Amendment (Deposits) Bill to explicitly rule out the possibility of ‘bail in’ where authorities would allow banks to convert your deposits to shares in a banking crisis—should be a ‘no brainer’ for any government”.

retails are now requesting card/tap as preferred option... NO THANKS... cash is king... always use. PS banks are profit machines and we shouldn't be forced to use them. people power!

The banks are a law unto themselves. The only way to curtail their power is to break them up. It also has the added avantage of creating some real competition.

Unless the banks are broken up the casino which are investment banks will continue to infect retail banking and put every day Australians at risk of losing their deposit to name just one. Please don’t anyone come back with “we have the guarantee deposit scheme”, that scheme is a joke and won’t save anyone if there is a run on the banks.
