This petition is asking for the Australian Government to assist Temporary Visa Holders that are living & working in Australia during the  COVID-19 outbreak
The developments over the last few weeks have brought unprecedented challenges for us all, indeed the world. Our Government has done an outstanding job in supporting Australians and Residents during this crisis.
I couldn't be prouder of being a permanent resident living in Australia.

Having started my career in Sydney on a Working Holiday Visa, I can relate to many of our Temporary Visa Holders that are currently going through hardship.
A great many of these Visa Holders were working in the Hospitality & Tourism industries. As we all know, these industries have been amongst those most severely impacted.
Most of these individuals have now lost their jobs and practically have no source of income. As a low income group, who have been limited to working 20 hour weeks they are now faced with using what, if any money they may have saved to pay rent, food and bills. In addition to these struggles, they are not able to go back home due to closed borders, shortage of flights, or simply not enough money to put towards a plane ticket. Most are not from wealthy families who are able to provide a great deal of assistance. This is a worldwide pandemic, and everyone in every country is facing their own challenges.

In Australia there are over 1 million Temporary Visa Holders & International students, adding more than $35 billion dollars to the Australian Economy every year. Many of these workers and students have been in Australia for years and should be treated like Australians. They've paid bills, health insurance, rental leases & enrolment fees for schools or universities. They've worked in a variety of roles and have paid taxes along the way. They eat, drink, travel & socialise all the while they are here, enjoying our wonderful country and adding to our economy.

Myself and many in this industry, are extremely worried for many of the employees who have been left jobless & with no alternative source of income. These international students have made an enormous contribution to the hospitality industry as a whole. They are a vital part of the fabric that is Hospitality in this country, and when Australia does begin to recover from this crisis the industry will need this workforce yet again.

We have always welcomed new people to this great nation, and have always had open arms towards them. These Visa Holders, now more than ever, need us!

On behalf of millions of people & in consideration of the great contribution they have made, I ask the Australian Government to offer support to these International Students and Temporary Visa Holders for the duration of this crisis.

Now is a time for unity, strength and resilience.

Thank you
