This petition is addressed to the the Prime Minister, Hon. Scott Morrison, and the Minister for Defence, Hon. Christopher Pyne, to demand the end of weapon sales to countries involved in the war in Yemen; namely, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia.
We the people of Australia and the undersigned, want the war in Yemen to end and this is not possible if Australia keeps arming countries involved in this war.
Some gruesome facts about the war:
- An estimated 85,000 children under 5 years of age have died of hunger and 1300 from injuries since the war began.
- Yemen is currently the world's largest humanitarian crisis, with some 8.4 million people in need of food daily.
- Nearly 3 million children under the age of 5, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding mothers are malnourished.
- Every 10 minutes a child under 5 years of age dies of a preventable disease.
- 2500 schools are either damaged or destroyed, with 25% of school children unable to go to school.
