Dear Mr. Morisson,
Firstly, we would like to Thanks the Commonwealth Government and the State government (s) for keeping all Australians safe in the COVID crisis while the world around us seems to be falling apart. We Would also like to thank our Government(s) for doing their best to repatriate Australians stuck abroad.

However, we found your handling of flight bans from India to be hurtful.

Those of us who were not Australian citizens by Birth, when we renounced our Citizenship of birth and pledged our loyalty to Australia the following are the words we said and meant them from the bottom of our hearts
“From this time forward, under God,
I pledge my loyalty to Australia and its people,
whose democratic beliefs I share,
whose rights and liberties I respect, and
whose laws I will uphold and obey.”

However, your choice of words (threats of jail term hefty fine) and actions (flight ban from India with no road map of how we would eventually repatriate citizens in a dire situation) was lacking and hurtful to Australians of an Indian Dissent (in particular) and any Australian who became a citizen by conferral (in general) especially since similar legal threats were not invoked for our citizens stuck in the UK and the US when they were having their own COVID crisis . Your words and actions are not in keeping with the Australian way of Fairness, democracy and a Fair go for all. Your mention of jail term in particular made us feel alienated in our own country.

A modern multicultural society like Australia is not bound together by a racial or linguistic identity but is rather bound by our shared beliefs in Democratic institutions, rule of law and equality of all citizens irrespective of origin. Unfortunately, in our opinion your response fell short of these Ideals. We understand the situation in India was and is very dire and it is not possible to safely repatriate citizens Immediately but Please consider having a plan to bring back Australians from India and the rest of the world in a safe way.

Ending this with what we sang on the Day we became Australians

"I am, you are, we are Australian"
