Why this petition matters

Started by Terry Boyd

The National FVPLS advocates on behalf of 13 member organisations who work against family violence in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, providing critical specialist services including casework, counseling and court support to First Nations people.

The Coalition government has just cut its (already meager) $244,000 annual funding for this essential organisation. For the sake of less than a quarter of a million dollars, the government has put a gag on women and children who need more, not less help.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women are 34 times more likely to be hospitalised and 10 times more likely to die from domestic violence than other women in Australia.

Chair of the National FVPLS Forum, Antoinette Braybrook said, "This not only drains our already limited resources… It rips Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women’s voices out of critical national conversations.”

All Australians need to stand up in defense of those most at risk. Send Mr Morrison and Mr Wyatt a message to reverse this ridiculous move and reinstate the $244,000 FVPLS funding.
