end indefinite mandatory detention

Indefinite mandatory detention (IMD) is the current federal government practice of detaining indefinitely persons seeking refuge in Australia.

This means that a person seeking refuge is detained against their will for a period of time that is undeclared and, therefore, it can be extended indefinitely.

Such practice is cruel because it is not humane or civil: it has a catastrophic effect on the mental health of the victim.
