The Morrison governement have announced that they want to spend 6.7 million on sailing a replica of the Endeavor around Australia to commemorate 250 years since Captain Cook arrived
There are plenty of ways that the government could spend $6.7 million - Serious Indigenous health programs; fixing the plumbing in remote communities; or domestic violence programs.
Australia does not need a 6.7 million dollar sailing trip done by a replica Endeavour to celebrate Captain Cook. To celebrate him is to celebrate the invasion of Australia, and the denigration of its traditional owners.
While history should be remembered, it should not always be celebrated.
