Lilly C started this petition to Scott Morrison (Federal Member for Cook) and

Recently I’ve been with my partner in and out of hospitals in Melbourne, Australia. We have been turned away by almost every hospital for the treatment he needs because they are understaffed. We visited the emergency room as they were experiencing constant vomiting and abdominal pain, expressing that they don’t feel they will survive through the night, the emergency department staff watched as they were laying on the floor in pain, throwing up in front of them - dismissing any request for pain relief or an anti emetic. We spent more than 7 hours in the emergency department before he was seen, all due to being understaffed. Upon asking when the doctor would see us due to the long wait time and the bad condition they were in, the emergency department staff stated if we were not happy to wait longer then we should leave, they showed no compassion or care in this time of crisis.

This is not the only case.

Young kids have died in emergency rooms due to the waiting time, patients are scared to go to the emergency room in fear of them not making it. This is not right and there needs to be a change.

  1. I am calling for a review of the Australian medical system, more staff and more treatment options rather than being given an IV fluid and turned away because there are no beds.

  2. I am calling for more considerate emergency department staff. The neglect that patients experience is beyond horrific. Having people’s conditions worsen without being given any comfort or medication to help is absolutely appalling. People should not have to wait until they are close to death or they do die, to get help.
