Ban plastic straws in Australia

Imagine having a plastic straw in your body for hours before dying. My name is Paul  and I am 12 years old. Sea turtles are in danger of plastic straws floating in our oceans. When they break down, straws become tiny pieces floating in the ocean. These pieces are then swallowed by sea turtles where they fill up the stomach and cause the turtle to starve to death. Australians use about 10 MILLION of these horrible things every day. Most are used just ONCE - for around 15-30 minutes, after which they are thrown away. When these horrible things enter the ocean it kills millions of marine life. You wouldn't kill turtles, seals or whales, right? But by using plastic straws you are killing these animals. Around the world, the ocean is being polluted by 437 million to 8.3 billion plastic straws. And plastic straws are just a small percentage of the more than 8 million tons of plastic that end up in the ocean each year. And besides, you can drink a soft drink without straws, right?

Regards,

Paul
