The speed at which our media players jumped on the bandwagon to ban an innocuous Christmas song has far reaching implications. By banning one song, it makes it that much easier to ban the next. And there are certainly a lot more suggestive and lyrically inappropriate songs out there than “Baby, its cold outside”. Freedom of speech to me is the foundation of democracy and by banning anything moves us closer to the dark side of society whether it is done voluntarily by the media moguls or the politicians in the passing of laws and regulations.

If we ban one song and then another and then another it become a huge domino effect. There are hundreds if not thousands of songs with more offensive lyrics to some group or another. Should we ban them all. Where does it stop?

Banning music then it leads to banning movies, television shows, and books. Soon the book burning's and lynch mobs of the 20th century will be back. The media and politicians need to fight this no matter how tempting it is to appear that joining a vocal minority is the best thing to do.

Banning anything because of someone’s modern interpretation of the meaning of a song written 10, 25, 50 or 100 years ago is not worth the risk to democracy and society in general.

I invite you to come out and say it is time to stop censorship. It is not about the cause it is about freedom.
