Here at Rye Cove high school and our partnering schools, (Gate City, Twin Springs) us students tend to ware hats outside of school that show support for our local businesses. However we have been backlashed with the reasons of not being allowed to wear our hats such as "being disrespectful", "we could be hiding something", "its distracting", and the list goes on. We use our hats to express our personality and our lifestyle we live. When we are silenced for not having a voice when it comes to our unique characteristics we feel as if we as students don't get a choice of how to live our lives. 

  When being backlashed with arguing reasons we get silenced and outcast into the shadows. We ask for the school board to acknowledge the wishes of students they represent such as governors do to the people of their state. In this day and age we get multiple incidents in school with not so fortunate events but in all reality what could a student hide in a hat? Here at the Rye Cove and the surrounding high schools we get told that hats cause "distractions" but if they did then a those students arent mature enough to be in high school, we arent elementary school students that would make distractions with hats. All were asking is a chance to express our inner most selfs in our own unique way.
