Scotiabank has announced that it will be closing its South Mountain branch including the ATM machine.

The South Mountain branch services the rural communities of Hallville, Mountain, South Mountain, Inkerman, Brinston, Dixon Corners and Glen Stewart and the farm enterprises in between.

Scotiabank would like us all to drive 20 to 30 km to its Kemptville branch.  Kemptville is no longer a rural town.  It is an Ottawa satellite with traffic congestion.

The letter we received states: “we’ll be much better equipped to provide the one-on-one financial services you have come to expect from Scotiabank”.  We already have amazing one-on-one in South Mountain where the staff know us individually by name and we have direct numbers to reach them when necessary.  The letter goes on: “we have flexible options so that you can bank when you want, the way you want.  We have enclosed our Digital Banking brochure, which describes the options that are right for you”.  The way we want is at our South Mountain branch.

What Scotia really wants is for us to switch to on line banking, so that they can cut staff costs to increase the 9 BILLION in net profits that they made in 2019.We have already read about on-line bank frauds that the banks refuse to pay to affected customers.

The local businesses regularly require a cash float and the ATM allows customers to do their deposits safely and withdraw cash, a service much used with the many activities that go on at the agricultural hall and fair grounds a block away.
