Speed limit change on the Sturt Highway past the Barossa Valley

Problem
We draw the attention of your Honourable House the serious dangers suffered by the residents and visitors of the Barossa Valley and persons travelling past Nuriootpa via the Sturt Highway because of the excessive speed limit of 110 Kms per hour on the eight and a half kilometre section of road between Moppa Road intersection in the south and Duck Ponds Road intersection at Stockwell in the north. Due to the increase in traffic on the Sturt Highway this section of highway has been the site of several accidents resulting in serious injury or death. There are sixteen entrances onto this section of road in constant use by local residents and other motorists. A large number of interstate and local trucks as well as the high number of other motor vehicles using this stretch of road at speeds of 100 or 110 kms an hour result in many motorists being at risk when anyone is entering the highway. The speed limit must be reduced before another person is seriously injured or another life is lost.  Your petitioners therefore request that your Honourable House will urge the Government to take immediate action to alter the speed limit on the Sturt Highway between Moppa Road Nuriootpa intersection and Duck Ponds Road Stockwell intersection from 110kms per hour to 80 kms per hour.
