Why this petition matters

Started by Hollie Myhill

I am starting this petition because far to many times now we as a society have failed our children, our babies, our neighbours babies, our societies babies. Turning a blind eye to inconceivable, inappropriate behaviours towards young children. In the 1900s children were seen and not heard,  It seems as though this is still the case, our children are walking through life with no voice of their own. Children can speak, children can tell the truth, but who is really listening? In the wake of the tragic death of little Arthur Labinjo Hughes, I ask that all adults take accountability for the young people in their lives. Wether that be a teacher, nurse, social worker, parent, guardian, family friend, neighbours, or passer by. These vulnerable children need our voices! Now more than ever. I ask that the UK government challenge all care givers, especially schools to be more vigilant in the care of their students. If a child has dirty hands for more than a week without cleaning, dirty clothes, write it down, if a child is distant and tired and sad, write it down, if it continues have a conversation with said child. Children are looked at like liars, like mindless little people who make up stories, and that is the whole problem right there. They may be little, they may see the world through different eyes and a different perspective but they can tell the truth, they can say what they feel, and it’s time us as adults give up some of the power we hold over children and actually give them a right to speak up. How can they speak up without a platform? Social services and police have failed this little one, massively. Ignoring vital and crucial signs of abuse and neglect. Arthur could have easily have been saved if people really tried. In my opinion no job would be worth keeping if it meant I was told to keep out of a situation where by which a child could die. If I had of been a teacher at that school I would have risked everything to save a child’s life, and no body did a thing to help this child. My petition is for schools to have a system in place named: I am listening. It will be a safe space for children to talk direct to teachers and where by which if a child is scared and does not want to go home out of fear, social services are contacted immediately and that child is then placed in foster care till further investigations have been carried out on that child’s home, that child’s caregivers including their social media accounts and every aspect of their living arrangements. These are our children and it’s happening to many times now. Let’s give our children a voice. Save lives and bring some sort of justice for this little boy Arthur. It’s the very least we can do for all the suffering he endured. Please help me in signing this petition. Make schools do more. Thank you
