In Broward County Public Schools the “Three Finger Rule” is in conduct. This rule states that if your sleeve does not measure to three of your fingers in width, it is considered a dress code violation. This rule is inefficient and sexist. First of all, not everyone’s fingers are the same width, this means that girls with wider fingers will need to cover more area with their sleeve, which is unfair and inefficient. Next, this dress code claims to prepare students to “dress for success”. I think my jeans and blouse that just happens to have thin straps, which is a dress code violation are more professional than basketball shorts and a tshirt, which is completely dress code safe. Finally, children shouldn’t have to be inconvenienced because they are afraid of their shoulders being objectified . Sign this petition to help change this inefficient rule.
