Do your children come home from school hot and bothered towards the end of the academic year?

During July temperatures can reach above 20'C. It is not nice to think of children becoming uncomfortable and suffering in the heat whilst wearing a collared shirt, tie and either black trousers, shorts or a skirt. In addition, some secondary schools completely ban males from wearing shorts! This means that they are forced to wear trousers in the sweltering heat.

Studies show that the wettest month of the year in the UK is August! Most of the rain in August is towards the end of the month. Therefore, children experience the most rain whilst sat at home often bored because the rain restricts everyone from certain fun summer activities.

To prevent this, the British summer holidays should begin at the start of July rather than the end and finish before September.

Furthermore, the world has a growing mental health issue that needs to be confronted. It is proven that rain makes people feel sad as it has connotations of depression and misery. Would it not be better if the young people in Britain were distracted by this rain by going to school rather than being forced to be confined by it?

The summer solstice is in June which means that the days start to become shorter before the summer holidays have even ended.

In recent years, graphs show that temperatures in July have been steadily catching up to temperatures in August. In 2017 and 2018 July was, on average, hotter that August. However, I would like to make it clear that my argument is not to have the whole of the holidays in July and not August because I acknowledge that August is hot also. But rather, my argument is to highlight that the best of British weather begins before most schools break up.

I believe the solution is that British school holidays begin and finish a week or two earlier.
